Triangular Colorbond profiles

    From Data Bytes 47

    Publication: After being signed by the presidents of the European Parliament and of the Council, the AI Act is set to be published in the EU's Official Journal shortly.

    Entry into Force: The AI Act will officially enter into force 20 days following its publication in the Official Journal.

    Application: Businesses will have a two-year transition period to comply with the AI Act from it entering into force, except for:

    • AI systems posing an unacceptable risk, which will be prohibited six months after the AI Act comes into force;
    • Codes and practices, which will apply nine months after the AI Act comes into force; and
    • Rules applying to foundation models, which will apply twelve months after the AI Act comes into force.
    • A period of 36 months applies to certain high-risk AI systems covered by existing EU harmonization legislation and general purpose AI systems that have been on the market before the AI Act applies to them.

    This timeline allows for a transition period during which entities affected by the regulation can prepare for compliance.
