Alain van der Westhuizen is a senior associate in our competition practice
Alain practices competition and consumer protection law, and has an interest in infrastructure regulation. He has extensive experience advising clients in all aspects of competition law, particularly in relation to mergers and acquisitions, investigations and business structuring.
Besides Australia, Alain previously practised in New Zealand and South Africa. Before joining Ashurst, he was Senior Legal Counsel – Competition at the New Zealand Commerce Commission. Prior to that Alain acted for some of the largest companies in South Africa, and appeared before the South African Competition Tribunal on a number of occasions. Through this experience, Alain has developed proven skills to advise on complex competition matters.
Alain has assisted clients with global work in a broad range of industries and sectors, including mining and natural resources, energy, agribusiness, financial services and fast-moving consumer goods.
