Alfonso González-Espejo is counsel and Head of Public Law
Alfonso is counsel and heads the public law practice of Ashurst Spain. Prior to joining Ashurst he worked at KPMG Abogados. Throughout his career, he has also has also headed the General Secretariat's Legal Office at Bankia and has been Secretary of the Board of Directors, General Secretary and Manager of the Legal Consultancy Department of Grupo LAR (Listed Real Estate Company).
He is a State Lawyer (Abogado del Estado) and has more than 28 years of experience in his field, focusing on the Financial Services Legal (FSL) area, and the Public and Energy law areas. He has also experience working in regulated sectors such as energy and financial and also in Corporate Governance mainly, issuing legal opinions, advising in negotiations between companies and conducting judicial and administrative proceedings before the courts or the Public Supervisors (mainly CNMC, CNMV or Bank of Spain).
In the public sector, he has served as Chief State Lawyer at the Ministry of Public Administration, and Secretary General and Secretary of the Board at the National Energy Commission, with active participation in the drafting of important rules and regulations in the sector.
Alfonso holds a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and an EC Law Course at The Hague University (The Netherlands). He also completed a Senior Management course from the Instituto de Empresa (IE), in Madrid.
