Umut advises corporates, funds and individuals on the tax aspects of an array of transactions including mergers & acquisitions, restructurings and partnerships. Umut has particular experience in the energy and financial services sectors.
In addition, Umut has developed a significant advisory and controversy practice that spans a variety of tax issues with a particular focus on corporation tax, international taxes (including tax treaties), employment taxes and transfer pricing (including advance pricing agreements).
Umut has extensive experience in guiding clients through complex tax investigations from initial enquiry through to litigation and appeals and has represented taxpayers at all levels of the English Tax Tribunals and Courts. He regularly handles high value tax disputes and regularly advises taxpayers on their rights with regards to tax administration. Umut is well versed at cultivating good relations between taxpayers and the tax authorities with the aim of bringing a swift resolution to investigations.
Prior to joining Ashurst, Umut was a manager within the tax litigation team of a Big Four accountancy firm.
