Global law firm Ashurst has acted for the Department of Transport and Main Roads as legal advisor and transaction advisor for the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), the largest rail investment in Queensland's history.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads contracted Downer EDI Rail Pty Ltd to design and construct a rollingstock manufacturing facility in Torbanlea, locally manufacture 65 trains, and deliver a maintenance and stabling facility at Ormeau.

The trains will be maintained by Downer EDI Rail and operated by Queensland Rail. It will support the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and be the most accessible trains ever providing services in the State.

    Partner Lee McDonald said:

"It has been a great privilege for Ashurst to advise the Department of Transport and Main Roads on the QTMP. We have been on the journey with the Department of Transport and Main Roads through all phases of the QTMP, and our role has been full service across both Ashurst legal and Ashurst consulting services. Our relationship with the Department of Transport and Main Roads continues to grow from strength to strength, and we are pleased to have supported the Department of Transport and Main Roads to reach this critical milestone for the QTMP."

The Ashurst team was led by partner Lee McDonald, who was assisted by: counsel Lillian Yeung, senior associate Matthew Taylor, and associates Corey Curran and Sandy Jassal (Projects & Energy transition).  The Ashurst Risk Advisory transaction team comprised Dan Hooper, Kate Robertson, Eamonn Connolly, Eric Wu, Kit Morris, Sha Lin Koh and Dara Ayoko.
