Global law firm Ashurst has announced the promotion of senior associate Gian Luca Coggiola to counsel in the banking & finance team.

This year Ashurst has promoted 15 new partners and 23 counsel globally.

Gian Luca Coggiola has more than 15-year experience advising banks, companies and investors in structuring and closing complex national and international financing transactions, both syndicated and bilateral. His experience includes corporate lending, real estate finance and leveraged finance. He regularly advises clients in loan trading, supply chain finance, factoring and leasing as well as in finance and regulatory issues. Before joining Ashurst in 2018, he practised at Allen & Overy and Chiomenti.

Gian Luca’s most recent experience includes advising: SMBC on the financing to support the acquisition, by Cromwell-IGIS, of seven logistics centres in Italy; BNP Paribas on the financing to support the acquisition of an office building in the centre of Milan by a pool of investors led by Mediobanca; a consortium of banks including Banco Santander, Mediobanca, Nomura International and Ubi Banca on the investment in Inwit by Tim and Ardian; Banco BPM on the financing to support the acquisition of Doteco by Piovan; Campari on the €500 million financing provided by a pool of banks; and several banks and companies on various financings guaranteed by SACE (the Italian ECA) pursuant to Decreto Liquidità.

Mario Lisanti, head of the banking & finance team in Italy, commented: "Gian Luca's skills and high performance are widely recognised both internally and by clients; his appointment reflects our commitment to fostering internal talent and strengthening the firm’s position in key strategic areas both globally and in Italy, as shown by the appointment - earlier this year - of partners Michele Milanese (Tax) and Fabio Niccoli (M&A) in our Milan practice. We are proud of what Gian Luca has achieved here at Ashurst and we are sure that, also thanks to his contribution, the firm will be able to continue its strong growth in Italy".
