    On Monday 27 July Ashurst will open its doors to the next exciting phase of its operations in Sydney, welcoming its people and clients to the firm's new Sydney office in the heart of the CBD at 5 Martin Place.

    The firm's new Sydney home is the iconic heritage-listed 'money-box' building which has undergone significant redevelopment, allowing Ashurst the opportunity to transform the office's working environment for the benefit of its people and clients.

    The 100-year-old heritage part of the building, which has been extensively modernised, retains its grand and distinctive historic features - including the sandstone facades, marble lobbies and interconnecting staircases - supplemented by a state-of-the-art office tower. The tower was purpose-built for Ashurst, with its fit out and facilities designed as an innovative and collaborative work space.

    The building also features updated IT infrastructure with the latest technology, internal stairwells for easy flow of people between floors, specially designed meeting rooms, collaborative break out and staff recreation areas. There is also a business lounge with work spaces and a fully equipped kitchen designed for the exclusive use of our clients.

    The heritage part of the development includes:

    • A rooftop terrace for Ashurst's exclusive use;
    • The original art deco-style ballroom, for functions, meetings and seminars;
    • A large central glass atrium allowing plenty of natural light into the building;
    • Restored heritage lift areas; and
    • The restored Prime Minister's suite, Sydney office of Prime Ministers until Bob Hawke's tenure in the 1980s, to be used as a meeting room.

    The building incorporates a number of architectural and technological initiatives designed to improve energy consumption and minimise environmental impact.

    James Marshall, head of office Ashurst Sydney adds: "Moving to the new building at 5 Martin Place is an investment in our people and our clients that we are proud to be in a position to make.

    "For the first time our Sydney practice is moving into purpose-designed office space to create the best possible work environment for our people. It is a space that will encourage interaction and collaborative work, while providing our clients with the best possible facilities in which to meet and work closely with our lawyers."

    Ashurst will be fully operational during the relocation process.
