XB Adviser

A comprehensive analysis of cross-border financial services licensing regulation, customised to your organisation and delivered via our award winning portal across 130+ jurisdictions.

In today’s rapidly changing regulatory landscape, financial institutions face increasing pressure to comply with complex licensing and marketing requirements across multiple jurisdictions.

The risks of non-compliance are significant, including regulatory penalties, reputational damage and operational inefficiencies. As global trends drive greater scrutiny and demand for transparency, organisations are seeking solutions that not only support their compliance framework but also streamline processes, reduce costs, and allow internal teams to focus on high-value priorities. Traditional approaches, such as bespoke surveys or generic third-party tools, often fall short – either lacking the flexibility to reflect an organisation's unique risk profile or failing to provide the legal safeguards required.

XB Adviser is a platform designed to be a single point of reference for your licensing and marketing compliance requirements. Unlike generic solutions, XB Adviser is fully customisable to reflect your organisation’s unique licensing footprint, risk appetite, and specific use cases. This ensures that you receive clear, regularly updated, and actionable guidance that is directly relevant to your business, supported by global experts.

Our integrated approach empowers your teams to operate with confidence, knowing they have access to expert advice, remediation, and support whenever needed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

XB Adviser is an online legal and compliance platform developed by Ashurst that serves as a single point of reference for your cross border licensing and marketing compliance requirements. It covers the widest range of financial products and services, including perimeter guidance relating to deposit taking, lending, securities, derivatives, payment services, trade finance, cash management and much more. Designed to be highly granular, financial institutions can drill down into highly specific financial product and activity combinations at a click to ascertain how they can conduct activities across the globe.

XB Adviser covers 130 jurisdictions and counting! This includes full coverage of the EMEA and APAC regions, all Canadian provinces and both US Federal and State laws. We can also add additional jurisdictions on demand.

Yes – whether you want to keep XB Adviser in your legal and compliance team, or roll it out across all your first line business users – XB Adviser supports both use cases. Business users can be limited to certain legal entity views or jurisdictions, whereas legal and compliance users can access all content, including the underlying legal advice from local counsel in each jurisdiction.

XB Adviser is a platform designed to be a single point of reference. Unlike generic solutions, XB Adviser is fully customisable to reflect your organisation’s unique licensing footprint. One size does not fit all. Your legal entities and licensing footprint are mapped into XB Adviser as part of your onboarding and applicable jurisdiction content will adjust to reflect your unique set up.

Yes – you can customise any content to reflect your risk appetite or internal policies or reference internal processes. This includes adjusting text as well as RAG statuses. Customisations can be made for some or all of your legal entities and are clearly flagged. You can always refer back to the XB Adviser baseline content at any time.

Information is obtained from leading local counsel in each jurisdiction via a consistent detailed questionnaire. We then map their answers into a consistent advice summary framework written in plain English. You have access to the local counsels' underlying advice, as well as the on screen summary report. XB Adviser allows you to search for specific jurisdiction/product/activity combinations and compare answers across jurisdictions side by side.

The dedicated XB Adviser team work with local counsel to flag and track changes ahead of time to ensure content is updated promptly following a significant regulatory change (such as the changes to European cross border business as a result of the implementation of CRD VI). We also independently track numerous regulatory sources to ensure we are aware of major regulatory developments affecting the content in XB Adviser. Content is updated promptly to reflect major regulatory changes. Where there are no major regulatory changes in a jurisdiction we will nevertheless review and refresh the content on an annual basis.

XB Adviser supports your record keeping and regulatory compliance processes in various ways. Specific search criteria can be shared via a single link to upload into other platforms or systems. Outputs of individual searches can be downloaded into a time-stamped pdf summary to be stored for evidence of legal review.
